±«Óătv Celebrates 72 Years of Fulbright Programs with Special Event

TAMPA, Fla (October 31, 2018) -  On Tuesday night, the ±«Óătv (±«Óătv) celebrated 72 years of Fulbright programs with a dinner and reception for the Mid-Florida Fulbright community.

The special evening event featured Károly JĂłkay, executive director of the Fulbright Commission in Hungary. Attendees were treated to appetizers and dinner along with a presentation by Dr. JĂłkay on the Fulbright program in Hungary. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Roger Brindley, system vice president for ±«Óătv World, Dr. Robert C. Knoeppel, professor of educational leadership and dean of the college of education, and Charles Adams, professor of english and dean of the honors college, and Dr. Darlene DeMarie, Ph.D., president of mid-florida fulbright chapter, ±«Óătv fulbright faculty advisor, and ±«Óătv college of education faculty.

 The guest of honor, Dr. JĂłkay, has been serving as executive director of the US-Hungary Fulbright Commission since November 1, 2012. He is also the president and founder of the JĂłkay Foundation, a non-profit that funds cultural, religious, and youth activities in the countries around Hungary as well as provides scholarships.

JĂłkay delivered a presentation along with several videos showcasing all that the Fulbright program offers in Eastern Europe. His presentation was followed by a Q&A session with guests.

“±«Óătv was delighted to host such a prominent Fulbright figure in celebration of the long and rich history of Fulbright programs in Hungary. ±«Óătv continues to be amongst the leaders in Fulbright faculty awards under the direction of Dr. DeMarie,” said Dr. Brindley.

Dr. Brindley also recognized the work of Dr. DeMarie in her role as the Fulbright Faculty Advisor. ±«Óătv was named a Top Producer of Fulbright Faculty Awards for all research universities for the past several years and was the number one producer for 2016.

“The Fulbright program is a wonderful opportunity for scholars to gain new perspectives, build lifelong connections, and gain fascinating knowledge they might have thought was out of reach before researching or teaching abroad,” explained Dr. DeMarie.
