What We Do

Competitive Intelligence

competitive intelligence

Competitive intelligence (CI) is the ethical practice of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information about the funding and research landscape to support decision-making. Our CI function within the RDI strives to help faculty develop the most competitive proposals possible, and to provide leadership with insights for strategic planning to advance ±«Óãtv’s research mission.

Deliverables

There are five primary CI products available, depending on client needs. Please contact the Research Development Institute for a consultation.

  • Sponsor Analysis: These reports focus on overarching funding priorities of a sponsor to help faculty understand and align with the needs of the sponsor.

  • Program Analysis: These examine specific funding programs so that faculty can understand how to position themselves to develop competitive proposals.

  • Landscape Analysis: This type of analysis examines leading research institutions and/or funding programs in a given research field. These analyses help faculty ±«Óãtv better understand its position within a field, and provide aspirational examples.

  • Capacity Analysis: These are internal-facing analyses of ±«Óãtv research capacity in a given area. These are comprehensive looks at all the researchers that perform or enable research in a field and illuminate strengths and gaps, which can be useful when developing teams or large initiatives.

  • External Profiles: These are biographical sketches of faculty or centers external to ±«Óãtv. These can inform teaming, hiring, or other activities, and may highlight exemplar researchers or organizations in a scientific field.
