Live Training Sessions

The following workshops are your opportunity to build your skills while engaging directly with a Digital Learning expert and your peers.  If you missed a session, you can email us to schedule a consultation and/or reach us via our Live Support. We can also facilitate customized workshops for your department or college. Email your ideas and requirements to facultysupport@usf.edu.

Canvas fundamentals

In this session, we provide you with the most critical Canvas features in preparation for the semester launch. We will cover everything from Canvas menu setup to connecting Teams to your Canvas course. Attendees are encouraged to follow along and set up their course as we work through the steps.

Microsoft Teams Essentials 

In this session, we provide you with the most critical Teams features in preparation for the semester launch. This includes connecting (synching) your Canvas course to Teams, setting up a Teams meeting, recording, and general best practices when using Teams. Attendees are encouraged to follow along and set up their course as we work through the steps.

Course enhancement with generative ai 

By now, you have probably heard of generative AI (GenAI). Platforms like Microsoft Co-Pilot, ChatGPT, and Gemini are revolutionizing productivity. In this session, you will learn how to fully leverage this technology to enhance your course(s) and optimize your teaching. We will start with the basics review different platforms and effective prompt engineering. Following this, we will explore GenAI use cases for course enhancement and see how other faculty are utilizing GenAI. By the end of this session, you will have everything you need to start constructing your own GenAI Course Enhancement Plan.

Transform Student Learning (and Grading) with Canvas Rubrics

In this session, you will learn how to design effective rubrics within Canvas. We will begin with a brief overview of rubrics and their benefits. Following this, we will demonstrate how rubrics integrate seamlessly into Canvas SpeedGrader, simplifying the grading process for faculty while providing students with transparent, descriptive, and equitable feedback on their work.

Exploring Canvas New Quizzes Features

In this session, we’ll take you on a journey through the realm of New Quizzes. You will see how it differs from classic quizzes so you can determine if it is right for you. We will also demonstrate how to "build" a New Quiz and review its features including new question types, accommodations settings, quiz settings, and more.

Quiz Creation in Half the Time with GETMARKED

GETMARKED enables instructors to quickly import questions into Canvas. This powerful solution also supports the importing of images, audio-based questions, feedback, and a variety of question types. Come see how to use this great tool!

Canvas New Discussions 

Stay up to date with the latest enhancements in Canvas with our specialized training session on the new features for discussion boards and announcements. This 45-minute workshop is designed to familiarize you with the latest updates that will transform how you communicate and engage with your students. We will cover new functionalities that make discussion boards more interactive and user-friendly, alongside enhanced tools for making announcements more impactful and visible. You’ll learn how to leverage these features to facilitate richer, more engaging conversations and ensure that your communications reach students effectively and efficiently.  Join us to enhance your digital teaching strategies and create a more dynamic and connected classroom environment.

Intro to Accessibility

Is everything in your online course accessible to all types of students? If your answer is "no", "I don't know", or "what do you mean by 'accessible'," stop right now and just click the registration link. 

In this session, you'll learn what makes documents and recordings "accessible". You'll find out why you want to make your materials accessible, even if you don't have students with disability accommodations. We'll then explore the tools to help you get your files in shape, and wrap up by demonstrating easier fixes you can do now in Canvas and Word.

Engagement Tools to Enhance Student Learning

Do you want to bring more engagement & interaction into your online course? In this session, we'll be discussing strategies & tools to help make this happen in both synchronous and asynchronous courses. This session includes time for a hands-on approach to dive into an online course and "play" with the tools.

In this session, we will discuss best practices for developing recorded presentations and lectures no matter what recording tool you use. These practices will help you produce videos that will keep your students engaged, save you time, and look good in the process.

Integrate Microlearning Into Your Course
(F2F and Teams)

There's no need to reinvent the skills wheel! Add in-depth tutorial modules from LinkedIn Learning or the ±«Óãtv Library directly into your Canvas course. You can even make completion worth a grade. Some modules give students a chance to earn badges.
