Student Organizations of Library and Information Science (SOLIS)

SOLIS is the overarching name of the graduate student group that encompasses ±«Óãtv’s American Library Association (ALA) Student Chapter and Special Libraries Association (SLA) Student Chapter. Their mission is to provide a community for all students interested in libraries and the services they provide to communities. This includes all types of libraries (university/academic libraries, public libraries, K-12 school libraries, etc.). In particular, they aim to be a community for students in ±«Óãtv's Master's of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. However, all students (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, etc.) are welcome and we encourage anyone with an interest in libraries to join, regardless of their academic major. They aim to facilitate and encourage participation in the ALA, increase awareness and use of the resources the ALA offers, provide a local forum for the focus and exchange of ideas and information related to the profession of librarianship, provide networking opportunities, develop skills and relationships to enable students to have a creative impact on the profession, and increase awareness of national and international issues in library and information studies.
