From Classroom to Career in Sustainability

Peggy Li

XiaoXiao (Peggy) Li

After completing her studies at the Patel College of Global Sustainability, this alum has landed a role that perfectly aligns with her passion for sustainable practices.

XiaoXiao (Peggy) Li is now an Operations Assistant at UniUni Logistics Inc., a Canadian company that specializes in last-mile delivery logistics and has recently expanded into Tampa. She started this new role on August 19, 2024, just as she was starting to become frustrated about challenges of the OPT job search as an international student.

As an Operations Assistant, XiaoXiao works closely with dispatchers to ensure the smooth distribution and delivery of packages from Miami to the end-users in Tampa. What makes this role particularly exciting from a sustainability standpoint is the focus on optimizing last-mile delivery solutions—the final step in the shipping process that has a significant environmental impact.

This position involves working on efficient route planning and incorporating of eco-friendly delivery methods, both of which are crucial for reducing emissions and traffic congestion in urban areas. XiaoXiao’s background in Global Sustainability has given her the knowledge and tools to implement strategies that not only streamline operations but also minimize the company’s carbon footprint.

The training and education she received at PCGS have played a critical role in her current position. By focusing on sustainable practices during their studies, Peggy is now able to contribute meaningfully to initiatives that promote environmental responsibility within the company.

Not only is she reducing the environmental impact of logistics operations, but she is also helping the company meet broader sustainability goals. This kind of work directly contributes to urban sustainability, improving air quality and reducing congestion—issues that are becoming increasingly important as cities grow and develop.

What’s particularly inspiring about Xiao Xiao’s journey is how easily her theoretical knowledge has been converted into hands-on experience. Her role at UniUni allows her to apply the strategic planning and operational management skills she honed during their time at PCGS. These are essential skills for anyone looking to pursue a career in sustainability-focused business operations.

For our alum, this job is not just a stepping stone - it’s a meaningful way to contribute to global sustainability  while gaining practical experience that will drive their career forward. We’re proud to see how our alumni continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainability.
