Alumni Spotlight: Winnie Mulamba

Winnie Malumba - PCGS Alumna

Winnie Mulamba was in the class of ‘19 at the Patel College of Global Sustainability with the academic concentration in Water Sustainability. Currently, Winnie is an Executive Director and is leading two sustainability collectives: Florida For Good (FFG) and B Tourism (BT). Her admirable passion in sustainability is demonstrated through the projects dedicated to the local community and industry.

FFG is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to transform capitalism for resilience in the face of shifting demographics, shocks and stressors that are frequently occurring and with more magnitude. FFG’s mission includes supporting Florida businesses as a force for good, advancing responsibility for greater impact, promoting social enterprise models and helping them thrive in a purpose-driven economy. Winnie assists businesses in Florida in measuring their ESG practices and aligning their goals with the UN SDG’s, which helps measure and verify their collective positive impact to the state’s economy.

BT, on the other hand, is a global network of Certified B Corporation travel and tourism companies, as well as other conscious travel organizations, that take collective action for environmental and social justice. Her platform serves as a resource for the regenerative travel movement and to help travelers enjoy a vacation experience that understands interdependence and interconnectedness.

According to Winnie, the training programs and long-term projects at PCGS were key to the success in her career. “Sustainability is an interdisciplinary field that provides an opportunity for so many different career paths. I personally think of sustainability as a lifestyle that needs to be cultivated in all job sectors as well as in our personal lives for us to realize its holistic benefits”, said Winnie.

Indeed, PCGS has been holding great pride in providing our students essential resources to achieve their career goals. To succeed at PCGS, “ask questions – there is no such thing as a stupid question, connect with sustainability professionals in your region and beyond, attend community/networking events and always show up when you can!!”, said Winnie. The Patel college looks forward to partner with Winnie in future opportunities, and to continue educating classes of graduates, like Winnie, who will create meaningful impacts on the planet.
