The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843 and to recognize the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 by Chinese immigrants who laid most of the track.

Nationwide protests highlight significance of continued research and education to prevent racism
±«Óãtv researchers have spent decades studying the many facets of civil unrest. They’ve witnessed activists spark effective change, demonstrations lead to destruction and communities become wary of police. They’ve educated tens of thousands of students on significant moments of history and how such history tends to repeat itself. It’s a lesson playing out nationally in response to the death of George Floyd with protests erupting thousands of miles away from where he died in Minneapolis police custody.
