ABOUT MY RESEARCH

My research interests lie in using molecular tools to understand microbial communities in the ocean. Currently, as a member of the Chappell Marine Molecular Ecology lab, I use various techniques to study phytoplankton community dynamics. I have been characterizing Southern Ocean phytoplankton community composition through metabarcoding and using metatranscriptomics to explore gene expression related to iron and light stress and nitrate assimilation.

WHY ±«Óãtv CMS?

Although my decision to attend CMS was made largely due to my advisor, Dr. Dreux Chappell, moving her lab to ±«Óãtv, I was also excited at the new opportunities I would get at ±«Óãtv CMS. I feel that CMS has a more graduate student-focused program and will support my research and professional development goals.
