Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Sanghoon Park currently teaches graduate courses, “Current trends of Instructional Technology,” “Interactive Media,” and “Motivational Design in Learning Technology”. His teaching goals are to create an optimal learning environment and to provide students with excellent teaching and advising. His teaching is closely intertwined with his research and service, both of which focus on strengthening students’ potential for academic growth and positive learning experiences.

His research agenda aims to enhance learning experiences in various educational contexts through effective instructional design strategies and emerging technologies. His primary focus areas include designing motivational interventions for online learners, investigating the effectiveness of multimedia technology in K-16 STEAM education, and exploring the educational implications of emerging technologies like augmented reality, virtual simulations, and AI-chatbots for learning experience design. Dr. Park's academic contributions include over 50 publications in book chapters and reputable journals such as Computers and Education, Educational Technology Research and Development, British Journal of Educational Technology, Studies in Higher Education, and the Journal of Educational Technology & Society. Recognized for his significant contributions, Dr. Park has received numerous awards from professional associations like and . These awards include multiple Outstanding Publication awards, the Crystal award, the Best Practice award, the Immersive Learning award, and the Young Researcher award. In 2023, he was honored with the ±«Óătv Innovation in Online Design and Teaching award, an accolade endorsed by the Florida Board of Governors. He and his colleagues hold a patent for a language learning system utilizing augmented reality and have a pending patent for a 3D cube-based science learning system. Dr. Park has been an active member of the AECT, AERA, and . In addition to regularly presenting at these professional organizations’ annual conferences, he has served in various capacities, including as an editorial board and ad-hoc committee member for journals and conferences, a program committee member and program planner for professional organizations, as chair, co-chair, program officer, and treasurer for special interest groups (SIGs), and as a keynote speaker, giving invited talks or attending invited events.

Dr. Park is currently collaborating with colleagues on several research projects that support optimal learning experiences in online learning environments through Learning Experience Analysis (LxA) and Motivational Regulation Chatbot. He also collaborates with colleagues in South Korea to design, develop, and validate virtual teaching simulations for teacher education. Recently, he has been engaged in grants supported by the Florida Department of Education, focusing on the civics literacy excellence initiative, employing emerging technologies as learning and motivational interventions.

Dr. Park is serving as a coordinator for ±«Óătv’s new Master of Science (M.S.) program in Learning Design and Technology. He has also served as a major professor/chair/committee member for approximately 100 doctoral students and more than 200 masters/specialist students.
