Waste fluorescent lamps and rechargeable batteries are hazardous and cannot be disposed as regular trash. At ±«Óãtv, these wastes are managed under EPA’s universal waste regulations (), which streamline the hazardous waste management standards for these categories of hazardous waste. The streamlined regulations:
- promote the collection and recycling of universal waste,
- ease the regulatory burden on generators and transporters , and
- encourage the development of municipal and commercial programs to reduce the quantity of these wastes going to municipal solid waste landfills or combustors.
